About me

Salvador Dali’s Invention of Monsters opened my eyes to art. The monsters writhing on the canvas and graces creating creatures echoed in my mind. It was made more real by Dali’s technique providing realistic detail where it was needed and letting my mind fill in others. Since then I’ve been fascinated with what artists say through their work – both subject and style working together to nudge my mind into areas that would normally go unexplored.

After college, I spent nearly four years as Assistant Curator of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art where I explored the vaults and the private collections to organize exhibitions that made visitors think differently. Unfortunately the economic reality of living in a resort town on a non-profit salary drained my bank account and I joined the corporate ranks of advertising and publishing in Los Angeles. I no longer spent my days engaged with art, but rather I spent my time distributing corporate messages sometimes masquerading as art. But voices kept coming from that dusty corner of my mind, nagging me, reminding me that there was something better.

The passion wouldn’t give up on me and I became the art critic at the Larchmont Chronicle. I’ve been dragging my family to galleries in search of the next voice to rattle my head. The enthusiasm continued to push me and in 2006 I launched ArtPhile.com where I share my thoughts on the art I see.

My goal is to see as much art as possible and share it with other art enthusiasts.
